Barnhart School

Fourth Grade Class Play

(Arcadia, CA.) Directed by fourth grade teachers Mrs. Tonya Beilstein and Mrs. Jan Wright, Barnhart School’s Fourth Grade performed “Gold Dust or Bust” for an enthusiastic audience Friday, February 1, 2008. Watch and listen as our students travel the Overland Trail to the Mother Lode.

In this dramatic performance, our students explored aspects of economic, social, and political life in California during the Gold Rush. These fourth graders compared how and why people traveled to California, and the routes they took. Analyzing the effects of the Gold Rush on settlements, daily life, politics, and the physical environment, our students came to understand how men and women helped build early California, meeting state standards for Social Studies in a fun and meaningful way.

The Middle School Yearbook Club filmed the play using three different video cameras and a copy is available on DVD for purchase. While demonstrating video technology, Barnhart students learn how to record, edit and publish video. DVD sales, used for technology upgrades, enhance the computer lab for all students to use.
