The Barnhart School, founded in 1959, is sponsored by the Santa Anita Church. The Santa Anita Church is a non-denominational, independent Christian church. At its founding, the congregation wanted its interest in humanity to go beyond the church. This outreach is seen in our daily chapel and in the focus given to values, morals, and ethics. While not a religious education school, our students are offered opportunities to recognize and enhance their spirituality. Many of the world's major religions are represented in our student body.
The school's philosophy is based on ideals, standards of excellence, and dedication to the total development of each student. Success and acceptance can be attributed to a fundamental and basic goal: unexcelled quality education in an atmosphere of respect and love encouraging independence and self-responsibility.
It is our purpose to challenge each child to his or her maximum potential. We place heavy emphasis on self-discipline and self-direction within a guided framework. Under this skilled guidance, a child's new contacts with the world become new learning and open the child to new possibilities. There are new worlds to discover everywhere he or she turns: nature, music, mathematics, science, drama, art, reading, the world of himself, and the world of his relationships with others.
Within this development of knowledge and abilities, the child develops relationships with peers and with adults. The child learns to function in the various social roles that will be encountered throughout life.
Once the child is secure and happy with self-concept, he or she is well on the way to continued success. The Barnhart School helps each child to develop, early in life, a healthy, wholesome, and positive self-concept based on real achievement and personal relationships.
